Beach Life Is The Best Life

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog today. I am overwhelmed by the wonderful comments and support I had for this card. I honestly didn’t think it would get as much attention as it has. But I am so happy that it made everyone feel “beachy”. Now…on to the card making!

I started with an A2 (4 1/4 by 5 1/2 in) panel of Paradise cardstock. I took 3 scraps of vellum and ripped them into a wavy pattern to mimic waves. Keeping one white, I then colored the other 2 with Hero Arts “Summer Sky” and “Deep Ocean” ink. This is very easy to do. Simply just put the ink pad to the vellum and cover the whole area. I did rub off any excess with a towel and set aside to dry. Once dry, I adhered the vellum layers (lightest to darkest) with liquid glue and cut off any excess. Now, usually glue does show through on the vellum but with the layers it did minimize it on the bottom layer. To hide the visible glue, I used the smallest amount I could and only adhered the edges of the vellum. I also splattered a bit of Perfect Pearls that was mixed with water onto the “waves” to distract from the glue. Not to mention it gives the “water” that sun sparkle look.

Next, I did the sand effect. I probably would suggest doing this before the waves because it would be easier but I do love the organic look I got doing it after the waves. I simply swiped on some clear embossing ink, added the amazing Hero Arts Sand Embossing Powder and heat set.

I used the star fish from the Hero Arts “Sea Shells” and cut 9 starfish from heavy weight white cardstock. I colored 3 with Copic markers in: R08, YR07, R02 and YR27 (just to dot). I then glued the colored starfish to 2 layers of the additional white diecuts. This really gives some great dimension.

Before adhering the starfish, I stamped my sentiment with embossing ink, added white embossing powder and heat set. This sentiment was from the newest My Monthly Hero kit but any beach sentiment would be perfect! I will list some alternatives in my supplies section.

I thought positioning the starfish was so fun…. why not have a wave going over one?! The starfish is underneath that first layer of vellum to get the effect of water washing over it. They were all adhered with liquid glue and I placed a larger acrylic block to ensure they stuck to the panel well. My final touch was adding some Studio Katia Clear Drops (not to mention this also hid the glue that the Perfect Pearls splatter didn’t…but don’t tell anyone. Shhhh!).

The finished panel was adhered to a side folding white heavy weight cardbase.

  1. Your card is utterly gorgeous! I especially like they way in which you have made the waves wash over the starfish on the beach. I have just received this lovely Hero Arts kit and am looking forward to trying out something similar. Thanks for the inspiration!
