Thanks for visiting me today! I’m glad that you stopped by to see the September My Monthly Hero (MMH) release and blog hop. Hero Arts always has some amazing releases and this one is no exception. It is filled with so much Fall goodness…which is good for me because Fall is my absolute favorite season.
Lets take a look at the kit:
The September My Monthly Hero release celebrates the pleasures associated with the arrival of autumn. From cool, crisp days with blowing leaves, to wonderful fall blooms and pumpkins galore, this release will get you in the mood for the changing season. Our main kit features a big, beautiful sunflower image, which can easily be colored with the layering stencils, inks and brush also included. Two useful message dies in a lovely font round out the kit.
Kit Value: $87 |
Kit Cost: $34.99 |
This set is very easy to line up so don’t let the layering deter you. It is GORGEOUS!
I have two cards for you today. One uses the MMH set and the other is a more masculine card that uses an add on from the release. I’ll be showing you how to add some foil accents to both cards!
I took a large piece of Bristol Smooth paper and lined it up in the corner of my MISTI stamping tool. Using the stencils, I ink blended: Hero Hues Lemon Drop Reactive ink and Distress Oxide Fossilized Amber for the flowers; Hero Hues Keylime Fizz and Green Apple Reactive ink for the leaves; Hero Hues Rootbeer Reactive ink and Distress Oxide Ground Espresso for the centers. I then lined up the outline stamp and used Soft Granite ink. I wasn’t actually sure I was going to do the outline so that’s what I left it for last. I used the detail stencil for the leaves and centers to add a thin layer of Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo. This only needs a few minutes to dry. I added foils and ran it through my cutting machine.
I used the coordinating die to cut the whole image. I then used an “eclipse” technique to die cut the thanks from the image. I added the large image to a panel of woodgrain cardstock. The sentiment from the Color Layering Pumpkin was also stamped onto woodgrain cardstock with Root Beer Ink, cut into a strip and adhered. The final touch was a few clear enamel drops. The final panel was adhered to a top fold A2 card base.
Supply List:
- Hero Arts MMH September 2021 kit

For my second card, I went a bit more masculine with muted colors using the cutest Chipmunk! Here is the set:
This is also a layering set but very, very easy to align. I think this a great set to make masculine cards. Let’s take a look at the card!
I began by stamping the Color Layering Chipmunk onto Sand cardstock using Distress Oxide ink in: Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs and Black Soot. I used the coordinating die to cut him out. I then used a panel (4 by 5 1/4 inches) of Sand cardstock to stamp the layering acorns with Distress Oxide Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo.
On a scrap of Sand cardstock, the solid layer of the acorn was stamped multiple times with Brushed Corduroy Distress Oxide. I then used an ink blending tool to lightly apply Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo to the detail layer of the acorn stamp. After letting dry for just a few minutes, I added foil and ran it through my die cutting machine. The acorns were also cut with the coordinating die. The acorns were adhered to the “pile” on the panel along with the chipmunk using liquid adhesive. The cute sentiment was added with Intensified Black Ink. The finished panel was added to an A2 size piece of black cardstock and adhered to a top fold A2 cardbase.

- Black Cardstock
- Intensified Black Ink
- Distress Oxide Ink: Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs, Black Soot, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo

Wonderful variety with coloring. Chipmunk is creative. Only seen Chipmunks on vacation once in Washington DC and also in Utah at Bryce Canyon & Zion.

Hi Lori, Sorry for my late reply. An eclipse technique is cutting your image/sentiment etc out of your background and then adding layers behind it to add dimension. Make sure to save all the pieces because you will want to inlay them. It’s such a fun technique. I hope it gave you a little bit of insight on how to do this technique…if not there are many tutorials on youtube/internet. One of these days I’ll get to making videos so I can show my techniques better. Have a great day!
