Look through the window onto a joyous holiday scene with the October My Monthly Hero Kit. The candles are lit, the classic toys are under the tree and the champagne is flowing. This month’s kit includes Victorian Christmas-inspired imagery in a large 6×8 stamp set, and a gorgeous window die that sets the stage for the scenes you will create. Rounding out the kit are acetate sheets to mimic window glass, lovely jewel tone cardstock and glitter to add a bit of sparkle.

Today, I decided a 5×7 inch card would be a fun change. I don’t usually make this size and I wanted to show how this kit can easily make larger cards and fill up the area. This first card does include a lot of coloring but I have a BONUS card for you at the end that is very simple but stunning.

5×7 card

I started by stamping all my elements from the kit (tree, bicycle, horse, presents and swag) with Intensified black ink. I used Copic markers (a lot of them) with 2-3 blends. Most of these images are very small so you really don’t need many markers. Other mediums such as brush markers would also do well here. I die cut the images and set them aside.

I die cut the window from Nautical cardstock and adhered acetate to the back. I heat embossed the Merry Christmas sentiment in Gold and added some white gel pen detail. I decided to add Mica flakes to the windows for a more “frosty” look but the glitter included in the kit would be beautiful. I ink blended Lemon Drop and Creamsicle ink onto a piece of white cardstock (smaller than the window) for a glowing look behind the tree. I then adhered the “yellow” panel, tree and window together with liquid glue.

I cut a panel of Paradise cardstock to 4.75 x 6 inches and blended Blue Hawaii and Root Beer inks around the edges for a more vintage look. I added the window to the Paradise panel then adhered it to a 5×7 white cardbase. White glitter cardstock was then used as snow to cover the bottom of the panel while still giving a nice white border. I simply ripped the glitter cardstock for the snow banks. I adhered all the other elements with liquid glue for my festive winter scene.

BONUS CARD: Now, I know not everyone likes coloring and this kit is perfect to just heat emboss for a classic look.

A2 (4 1/4 by 5 1/2)

I gold heat embossed elements of the kit onto a 4x 5 1/4 inch white panel. I stamped the horse separately, die cut and adhered to the card. It’s not completely 1 layer but its flat enough where it shouldn’t cost any extra postage (great to mass produce). I cut another panel of red cardstock and adhered everything to an A2 side folding card base.
