Hero Arts My Monthly Hero June 2022 Blog Hop And Giveaway

Hello eveyone! I’m so happy that you could join me today. It has been a bit since I have shared some inspiration. It’s the end of the school year for my kids so that means tests, recitals, concerts, etc etc.

I am back with some inspiration for the My Monthly Hero kit for June. This set is stunning. The large mermaid image is simple beautiful. Lets take a full look at the kit!

Head under the sea with our June My Monthly Hero release. A beautiful mermaid greets you, with hair flowing and tail shimmering. She’s accompanied by a colorful fish and jelly, with seagrass and coral surrounding her. Pearls are an accent to this kit, with an image, messages, and embellishments uniting the theme. The kit is rounded out with a Reactive Ink palette and brush, perfect for watercoloring the images or creating gorgeous underwater backgrounds.
Kit Contents:• 6″ x 8″ Clear Stamp Set
• 8 Coordinating Frame Cuts
• Mermaid Reactive Palette Ink Pad
• Self-adhesive Pearl Gems
• Water Flow Brush
Kit Value: $72
Kit Cost: $34.99

Beautiful! I love anything sea related and this is definitely no exception. If you haven’t used the Reactive colors yet…you are going to love them. They are so much fun to work with.

I have 2 cards to share with you today. This first one uses those beautiful reactive inks and some of the smaller images in the set.

*Ink smooshing- I added ink to a smooth surface (glass mat) and added water. Recycled packaging was used to add the ink to the panel.

Starting with a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock, I ink “smooshed” the colors onto the panel using a recycled piece of packaging. By using the packaging, I can control the ink a bit better. I applied them going at an angle starting in the bottom left corner.

While my panel was drying, I stamped and heat embossed the coral, seaweed, shells, and starfish. I used all reactive inks and a water brush to apply the color. The elements were die cut with the coordinating dies when they were dry.

The dried “smooshed” panel was cut down to 4 by 5 1/4 inches and applied to black cardstock. I really think the black makes the colors more vibrant. The die cut pieces were adhered to the panel using liquid glue. The “Hello” sentiment was white heat embossed onto black cardstock. For a finishing touch, I added the gorgeous pearls included in the kit. The completed panel was added to an A2 top folding card base.

For my next card, I used the large mermaid image. But I did a different technique with it.

I stamped and heat embossed the mermaid onto a piece of vellum and colored the back side of the image using Copic markers. The brighter the marker the better it will show up through to the other side. It gives a soft and beautiful look. She was then die cut and set aside. I stamped the shells and sea weed in black ink and also colored those with Copic markers.

I used an A2 panel to ink blend the blue reactive inks and added some clean water for the splatters. I added embossing ink to the bottom of the panel and heat embossed with Sand Embossing powder. All the elements were adhered to the panel using strategically placed glue behind the shells so it wouldn’t show through the vellum. The sentiment was stamped onto Sand cardstock and adhered directly to the panel.

  1. I love the idea of coloring on the backside of the vellum! I am sure it looks even better in real life! The sea stars and shells look awesome in her hair! you can imagine that with all that hair things are going to get caught in it! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. I apologize for my late reply. I was not feeling well.
I have seen the technique of coloring on the back side of vellum from a few other crafters. I’m pretty sure Jennifer McGuire has done it before. I thought it would be the perfect technique for the mermaid!
